Offering Kumkma Water
Rituals are in the centre of everything we do, this is the way we live and how the human generation will continue. It is our responsibility to pass on our culture and all the rituals to the next generation so that it can live for many more years to come. This was shot in a small town of Karnataka, Shravanabelagola, where thousands of devotees especially from Jain religion come every month to offer their prayers to Lord Bahubhali. At this time the priest was offering kumkma water (red) right onto the idol feet, a memorable moment. This image also reminds that even though devotees come and go, the ritual has to continue day in day out and the priest is the one who sacrifices and live his life serving the almighty.
Sunset and Flamingos
This is Pulicat Lake, which is the second largest lagoon in India. Every year thousands of flamingos visit this place. I spent eight hours photographing these birds at this place, and this was the image I made when the sun was setting. I spent almost six hours shooting these birds sitting in the water with my camera on an icebox to get low angle perspective and the sun reflecting off the water.
kick boxing
I have visited the someshwara wildlife sanctuary which is a forest to see and capture the nature of dancing frogs. i have tried to capture the foot flagging but when i was too close to them they were not showing this behavior . After few days, I went with with my 600mm prime and was sitting on the banks of water stream. waited patiently for hours. I saw these 2 males being very close and they started calling. I had to shot in burst mode to capture how they do the foot flagging
As usual just ignoring what woman said
I made this image on 31st of March 2018 at Masai Mara national reserve, Kenya. I have been following the big cats from quite long time and it’s so nice to see different behavior of these magnificent felines. In this image the lion and lioness were on the hunting mode to feed their pride but the lion kept on stationing at several places and this really annoyed the lioness and thus that the expression. This was very new to me as I thought only humans show these expressions/annoyed (Man vs Woman) but was amazed to see and document the animal behavior. How we ( Humans ) take care of our family in the same way the lions/Animals also take care of their pride, said that When it comes to animal behavior, never say never. In fact, most people who spend a lot of time in the bush continuously witness behavior that is believed not to happen or has never been recorded. The reality is that animals act of their own free will, and don’t always follow the rules of textbooks. What many people believe about animal behavior could be the result of witnessing limited examples of a particular situation. Did I say that Male lion is Lazy? No they are not lazy actually male lions have a reputation for being lazy, but that is far from the truth. A male’s job is critical to the protection of his pride. Male lions patrol the territory where the pride lives, and will fight to protect it. They travel vast distances to patrol their territory, by scent marking and vocalizing, to ensure other lions who may be a threat, stay away. It is critical for male lions to keep out other males, because if another male or coalition comes to dominate, they will kill all the cubs to keep from expending energy on raising cubs that are not their own offspring. I hope you like my small write up and the image.
Wet Cats - Cheetah
This is the famous Malikah from the Masai Mara with her last litter of 2 male cubs. During the month of Dec 2017 after dropping off some of my friends at the airstrip getting some alone time in the Masai Mara, while making my way back to camp the dark cloud above opened up to a thunderous shower and as we swayed our way through the savannas black cotton soil we came across this Cheetah family as they huddled and played around in the rain.
Fair play please, Gentlemen
It was early morning and already two sub adult elephants were mock fighting, after a good amount of eating and playing with their herd in the river water. They were probably brothers from an extended family, both with tusks. And a Myna bird is standing as the referee with focused eyes to ensure that all rules are being followed in this friendly bout. That is how I inferred this amazing scene at the Corbett Tiger Reserve in India. A couple of Mynas were busy picking up food from the heaps of fresh dungs left by the herd. When these two elephants started pushing and nudging each other, one Myna left but this one stood still very near to the big boys and kept watching for a long time. This is an amazing behaviour of the Myna. Young elephant males often engage in mock fighting, foreshadowing the more serious and violent interactions among adult males. When the younger ones meet, they spar in order to assess each other’s weight and strength. Myna birds have a symbiotic relationship with animals who are much bigger in size, like the Indian Rhinos and the Indian Elephants. Mynas nibble elephant dung for dung beetles and other insects. They also collect and carry small balls of elephant dungs to make their nests.
Gods of Malabar
The story behind the origin of Kandanar Kelan goes like this. A person called kelan who hail from theeya caste came to a hilly area in search of his livelyhood through farming. One day a bit intoxicated, he set fire to shrubs in order to clean up the place.Unexpectedly, the fire spread off and kelan was in the midst, fire all around him. There was no way to escape and kelan climbed a tree as a last resort. Alas, there was a snake on the tree. Kelan and snake fell into the burning fire.Kelan met with death along the snake. It was the time when Wayanatt kulavan had set out for his daily hunting and he happened to pass through this area. Vayanatt kulavan on seeing the burnt body of Kandanar Kelan, touched his body with his bow. Kelan got his life back immediately. Kandanar Kelan who got a rebirth befriended with Wayanatt Kulavan. Thus Kandanar Kelan also become devine and started being performed as Theyyam. As Kelan was found in the forest fire, he was called Kandanar Kelan. Before the Vellattom of Kandanar Kelan, the hunters would go to the forest and return back with their catch. One of the catch is burnt in the fire and theyyam performance include an enact of intake of these meat.
The Two Jewels
These are the lesser Golden Flameback Woodpeckers shot in Shimoga,Karnataka, India on a rainy day. As I had been to this place for a small function, saw a huge tree with no leaves and was wondering what if I sight birds here. As I take my camera everywhere, I sat with my gears in front of the tree and kept on waiting for birds to come. I had the feeling that they would come. And after 3 hours of waiting, these beauties arrived from nowhere and started searching for worms and I was thrilled and took tons of photos as it was there for a long time and gave good photo opportunities. Truly this was really special!

Hello, darkness!
The monsoons are always full of surprises and precisely, for this reason, I never missed an opportunity to hit the woods during monsoons. We had two eventful drives the previous day with ample opportunities to photograph, the flora and fauna thriving with the onset of rains. I have always wondered how a black panther could move undetected during the day, but then, it’s the game of hide and seek the Panthers are really good at. He swiftly vanished into the thicket after crossing the track from behind our vehicle offering us only a glimpse of his shiny black coat. He moved through shadows and vanished before our very eyes only to creep into our sight like a summer daydream on a monsoon morning. That feeling, when you are unsure whether you are awake or still dreaming, except for this time, I wasn’t dreaming! This will remain etched in my memory forever, one of the fine mornings well spent with this magnificent cat as he led us through his obscure trails. The last two days have been ethereal as every blade of grass adorned a dewdrop, rainbows kissed the treetops and the phantom of the jungle walked the vibrant earth. Melanistic Leopard from the woods of south India
